Tetris
One of the longest standing games of all time is Tetris. It’s one of the simplest yet addictive games out there which could be the key to its longevity.

Believe it or not, the Tetris theme song is even older than the game itself. The game might feel like it’s been around forever, but the song actually comes from an old Russian poem.

The poem was written by the famous Russian author Nikolay Nekrasov way back in 1861. The song isn’t quite that old but it does have a Russian name. It’s called Korobeiniki which is the Russian word for ‘peddlers’ and the poem has a similar rhythm to the song.

The song was updated back in 1989 by Hirokazu Tanaka specifically for the Game Boy version of Tetris. Since then, there have been many variations and updates so the song is always slightly different for different consoles.

The song might be iconic but this fun fact about its origination is sure to impress your friends.

Mortal Kombat
Another game that has stood the test of time is Mortal Kombat. It’s still a firm favourite of any gamer out there today, even though the game itself hasn’t changed much since it came out.

The soundtrack itself was created by The Immortals which is a band made up of Maurice "Praga Khan" Engelen and Olivier Adams. The song was released back in 1994 to accompany the release of the game. However, there was an original single called Mortal Kombat (Techno-Syndrome) that was released in 1992.

This song is one of the most recognisable gaming soundtracks there is and there are still fans of the game today.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2
Pop punk and alternative rock made up the soundtrack of the early 2000s. This meant that the soundtrack to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 game fit right in.

The game itself was a huge hit due to the fact that Tony Hawk was such a prime time celebrity during these years. But the soundtrack itself made the game even more popular as it matched the vibe of the game and the time completely.

There were all kinds of different songs from popular bands at the time including Papa Roach and Public Enemy. The grunge and hardcore music was the perfect background for the skating moves that we all attempted in this game.

Super Mario
Whether you’re a grown up or a kid, Super Mario has always been a top choice when it comes to gaming. There are so many different characters to choose from and amazing tracks to race on.

And such an iconic game had to have an iconic soundtrack. This fun and exciting game definitely has a soundtrack to match. The colours and sounds work harmoniously together and the tune will stay in your head for days after.

The song is officially known as the ‘Ground Theme’ or ‘Overworld Theme’ and was one of six themes that Koji Kondo produced. It has been remixed and redone over the years to match the updated games but the general tune has remained the same.

It’s one of the most recognisable gaming soundtracks out there. Koji Kondo said that it was a difficult one to create but we think he’s had a huge success with it.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
The last but certainly not the least successful gaming soundtrack on our list is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This gaming soundtrack contains over nine hours worth of music and it’s all based on the 80s theme of the game.

There’s every kind of genre you could think of in there, from heavy rock to synth pop - so you know there’s something for everyone’s taste. The soundtrack is so ingrained into the game itself that there is a specific part dedicated to the radio.

This makes the game feel even more realistic as it’s as if you’re driving in your own car. It’s difficult to find another game with a soundtrack that is so in sync with the game itself.

That’s our list of the best gaming soundtracks, was it the same as yours? Let us know if there are any missing.
