The American singer Taylor Swift, who has been embarking on an extensive international tour for months, also breaks records with her creations in vinyl format after selling more than 700K copies of her latest LP "The Tortured Poets Department" during the past weekend.
According to Variety magazine, the recently released album by the Pennsylvanian diva has not only become a worldwide sales phenomenon, it has also managed to be the best-selling album in history in vinyl format.
The one who is also considered the "queen of vinyl" by the media, has broken her own record in this modality since the previous best-seller also belongs to her: the album "1989 (Taylor's Version)", released last October, sold 693K copies on vinyl in one week, according to Billboard.
But in addition, the magazine remembers that the pop diva also occupies third place in million-dollar sales: her work titled "Midnights" set a weekly record for vinyl sales when it came out in October 2022, with 570K copies.
Variety highlights that to find an artist who was breaking the record for most albums sold in a week other than Swift, you have to go back five months before "Midnights", when the British Harry Styles had what was then the number highest on record, since "Harry's House" sold 372K vinyls in just 7 days.
The magazine recalls that these counts have been carried out since 1991 when vinyl music stopped being the most purchased by consumers and began to compete with its distribution of albums in more formats such as CDs, cassettes or online downloads.
