Bittersweet Poetry Lyrics

Bittersweet Poetry words by Angela Brown
(Short music introduction – then female starts the “talk rap” spoken word to the rhythm)

Intro (female spoken word line)
It is better to have experienced love and loss than to not know love at all

Pre - Chorus (male singing)
Bitter sweet, bitter sweet, bitter sweet poetry
Is when two hearts burn eternally

Chorus (male singing)
I love you, but I don't mean it
I need you, but I will not accept it
You hurt me in the worst way
I don't need you, but I want you to stay
I hate you so bad, but I love you the same
Why do we choose to play love games

Verse 1 (female “talk rap” spoken word to the rhythm with some sax in the foreground, sort of mimicking her with some notes)
I could never measure up to what you had in mind
Love hurt so bad I was willing to sacrifice my life
How does one identify with my one true love?
When I need a man in my life, love did not measure up
Love is powerful deep down in my heart
And I was too proud to admit love was from the start
How do I deal with the one who hurt me overly?
This is bittersweet poetry
Pre - Chorus (male singing)
Bitter sweet, bitter sweet, bitter sweet poetry
Is when two hearts burn eternally

Chorus (male singing)
I love you, but I don't mean it
I need you, but I will not accept it
You hurt me in the worst way
I don't need you, but I want you to stay
I hate you so bad, but I love you the same
Why do we choose to play love games

Verse 1 (female “talk rap” spoken word to the rhythm with some sax in the foreground, sort of mimicking her with some notes)
Why does love to hurt so badly, why does love feel so sad?
Why does loving you make me laugh when I am mad?
I was too proud to admit to this that our relationship would come to end
It has come to this; you go figure it
This is bittersweet poetry

Pre - Chorus (male singing)
Bitter sweet, bitter sweet, bitter sweet poetry
Is when two hearts burn eternally

Chorus (male singing)
I love you, but I don't mean it
I need you, but I will not accept it
You hurt me in the worst way
I don't need you, but I want you to stay
I hate you so bad, but I love you the same
Why do we choose to play love games?
Bridge (female and male duet “talk rap” here – gender lines are labeled - spoken word to the rhythm with some musical breaks on the emotional ends… and a bit of a crescendo build back up to the outro chorus)
Why does love to hurt so badly? (female)
Why does love to make me mad? (male)
Words my heart always said... “To hold on, be strong, take pride in you, in all you do. Don't let sin get the best of you.” (female)
Sorry things did not work out. (male)
This is bittersweet poetry. (Both female and male)

Chorus (male and female singing the duet together with layered harmonies until the end – possibly twice depending on time length – mostly likely once)
I love you, but I don't mean it
I need you, but I will not accept it
You hurt me in the worst way
I don't need you, but I want you to stay
