People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one
And we've just begun
I think I'm gonna have a son
He will be like him and me, as free as a dove
Conceived in love
The sun is gonna shine above
And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you honey
Everything will bring a chain of love
And in the morning when I rise
Bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything's gonna be all right
Love a guy who holds the world in a paper cup
Drink it up
Love him and he'll bring you luck
And if you find he helps your mind, better take him home
Yeah, and don't you live alone
Try to earn what lovers own
And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you honey
Everything will bring a chain of love
And in the morning when I rise
Bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything's gonna be all right
And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you honey
Everything will bring a chain of love
And in the morning when I rise
Bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything's gonna be all right
I can't give a meaning to this song, because you've got it all wrong. These are not the lyrics to "David's Song (I Don't Want To Drive You Away)" popularized by Anne Murray in 1968 - but not written or even first recorded by her. These are the lyrics to what I consider to be a far better song, "Danny's Song" by Loggins & Messina. Per Wikipedia:
"Danny's Song" is a song written by American singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins in 1970, as a gift for his brother Danny for the birth of his first child, son Colin. It first appeared on an album by Gator Creek and then appeared a year later on the album 'Sittin' In,' the debut album by Loggins and Messina. The song is well remembered for both the Loggins and Messina original, as well as Anne Murray's 1972 top-ten charting cover."
So Anne Murray did cover this song but in 1972, not 1968 as shown here. It's been covered by other artists, including being a favorite in the '70s among local musicians who played solo gigs in their town (I heard it covered live often back then).
