Three-six-nine the goose drank wine
The monkey chewed tobacco on the street car line
The line broke the monkey got choked and they all went to heaven in a little row boat
Clap pat, clap pat, clap pat, clap pat
Clap pat, clap your hand, pat it on your partner's hand, right hand
Clap pat, clap your hand, cross it with your left arm
Pat your partner's left palm
Clap pat, clap your hand, pat your partner's right palm with your right palm again
Clap slap, clap your hand
Slap your thighs and sing a little song, go
My mama told me if I was goody that she would buy me a rubber dolly
My aunty told her I kissed a soldier
Now she won't buy me a rubber dolly
Three-six-nine the goose drank wine
The monkey chewed tobacco on the street car line
The line broke the monkey got choked and they all went to heaven in a little row boat
Clap, clap, clap your hands and prepare to pat
Clap, take your right arm, pat your partner's right palm with your right palm
Clap, take your hand back and clap and clap and clap and clap
Clap, take your right arm, cross your right arm with your left arm
Pat your partner's left palm with your left palm
Clap, now back with a clap
Slap, take the pats of your palms and slap your thighs and watch the fun materialize as you sing this little song
Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, slap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, slap
My mama told me (Told me) if I was goody (Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, slap) (If I was goody)
That she would buy me a rubber dolly (Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, slap) (A rubber dolly)
My aunty told her I kissed a soldier (Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, slap)
Now she won't buy me a rubber dolly (Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, slap)
My mama told me (Clap, clap, clap, clap)

Interesting words. This is my favourite version since it's the one I remember from the '80s. As it was "written" in '65 it was obviously meant as another dance craze. The words them selves seem to be based on other songs. The clapping part seems to be taken from the "Patty cake" game. the rubber dolly part is based on "little rubber dolly" by the Light Crust Doughboys who released the song in the "30s (the music also seems to be from this recording.). this song is quite possibly older. Who knows where the other part comes from

It came out as a record in 1967 but when I was singing it and my mother heard me, she knew the rest of the words, said she knew it as a kid. She was born in 1917. People take old songs that have no copyright and get the copyright.

@Boolie. They should make a song that teaches black people grammar..-coz they aint got none.- Not to mention, a WHITE chick wrote the song, and famous white people were first among musicians. I'm not racist, but I am prejudiced against anyone speaks uneducated, disrespectful, opinions. Go to school

@Kizz What are you basing this interpretation on? I cannot find your references. Everything I find says this is a clapping game.

This song was written by Lincoln Chase, originally arranged by Charles Callello and recorded by Shirley Ellis in 1965, which is the verson i like over the Belle Stars cover.
