A sparrow falling from the sky
It's wing is torn away by the wind
A misty shape is rising in the dunes
My life is etched into the sand
A door has opened out of my world
Shedding my skin I step inside
The light is deeper than the ocean
Through the sound my eyes begin to smile
One step away and my plane is on fire
I crash today and my spirit is higher
I see the view from every angle
A million faces turned into one
A web attaching every living thing
A tunnel leading me to the sun
But something pulls me back to my house
I want to stay but fate denies
My body's closing in around me
Through the sound my eyes begin to cry
This song has beautiful imagery. I think the lyrics are describing a near dear experience. After this NDE, our subject gains a sense of religious understanding and wisdom. Now to analyze the lyrics:
The sparrow from the beginning could be a reference to an angel from heaven greeting our subject post NDE.
"A misty shape is rising in the dunes" - could be a reference to prophets ('from the deserts the prophets come' - AD Hope). Some prophets spend a period of isolation in deserts, such as Christ and John the Baptist.
"My life is etched into the sand" - keeping with the desert imagery but hinting at a fleeting life due to the irony (etching in sand).
"Shedding my skin I step inside" - reference the subject leaving the physical body and becoming part of spiritual world. Next line refers to the "light" people often speak of in NDEs.
CHORUS: A correction should be made b/c the first line is actually "One bird away and my plane is on fire". This means that our subject is close to death. Crashing today refers to dying.
The next 3 lines speaks of spiritual understanding and wisdom.
"A tunnel leading me to the sun" - refers to the tunnel that subjects are drawn to during their NDE. Sun could be another reference to the light.
"My body's closing in around me, Through the sound my eyes begin to cry" - This is describing the end of the NDE. Subjects who have gone through NDEs often convey a sense of peace during their episode. Now that the subject has returned back to their body (soul and all), they are overwhelmed by their experience and cry. Maybe this subject now wishes to transform their life into something better.
