FIONN REGAN

- Dogwood Blossom Lyrics

keep climbing into my head without knockin'
and you fix yourself there like a map pin
on this ghost of this street where i'm
livin'
i'm in a chrysalis and i'm snowed in

darling, darling that dam's gonna give
it's inevitable the way that you live
bottles in brown paper and a mouth that
slurs
all the shit that it stirs
let that dogwood blossom

there'll be hell to pay in heaven
for you take every street home

what happens when you're in too deep to
break
loneliness keeps you constantly awake
what happens when the passage of time
appears
you see yourself as a child and it brings
you to tears

you say that you're troubled and you always
have been
uncomfortable in your own skin
so you contemplate the riverbed
turn off the dark thoughts in your head

darling, darling that dam's gonna give
it's inevitable the way that you live
bottles in brown paper and a mouth that
slurs
all the shit that it stirs
let that dogwood blossom

there'll be hell to pay in heaven
for you take every street home

What is the meaning behind Dogwood Blossom lyrics?

When we try to understand the message behind it, Fionn Regan's "Dogwood Blossom" brings about the feeling of being locked inside one's own mind and fights with oneself the chrysalis metaphor and snowed in talking about hope). The words convey the necessity of facing the repercussions of one's deeds and decisions, signified by the dam that is certain to rupture etc. So, we would get a judgment in heaven, where the sinners would be separated from the good ones. The images of walking alone, looking into oneself, and inner struggle are the main ones throughout the song. They portray the internal fights and the emotional burden that the person is carrying. Dogwood blossom lyrics point out mostly reflection, angst, despair, solitude, and heartbreak. Simultaneously, the song brings to the forefront the importance of battling one's' inner demons, the inevitability of consequences and nostalgia along with reflection. The lyrics encompass loneliness, substance abuse, and emotional struggles, which might not be appropriate for kids under 13. The reference to "bottles in brown paper" and "a mouth that slurs" implicitly points towards alcohol consumption. Besides, the mood is dealing with already complicated issues of feelings that are more suited for adults.

Someone spiralling into the deep murky depths of depression. Drinking themselves to death with the hope of blotting out their thoughts and emotions. The brown bag indicates possible alcohol addiction and "the shit that it stirs" indicates all the controversy and rubbish alcohol may cause the person to say/do.
Alcohol isn't helping, if anything it's making matters worse, causing isolation despite having people around. Causing bad thoughts and feelings of no escape from these dark thoughts. So much so that the only way out is to take ones own life.
It's as though it's in the 3rd person, someone looking in at what this wonderful person, so dear to them is doing with their life. This Dam's gonna give, indicates they cannot sustain this behaviour for long.
