On a hill far away,
Stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame,
And I love that old cross,
Where the dearest and best,
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
I believe in a hill called Mt. Calvary,
I believe whatever the cost,
And when time has surrendered,
And Earth is no more,
I'll still cling to the old rugged cross.
I believe that the Christ who was slain on the cross,
Has the power to change lives today,
For He changed me completely,
A new life is mine,
That is why by the cross I will stay.
I believe in a hill called Mt. Calvary,
I believe whatever the cost,
And when time has surrendered,
And Earth is no more,
I'll still cling to the old rugged cross.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down,
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
