IRON BUTTERFLY

Shady Lady Lyrics

She stayed time's queen in a darkened scene
She's a bad dealer whip on a bad dealer trip

But that's my lady, my shady lady
She's a mean like sour cream
Talking about my baby, oh my shady baby

I know I gotta try though I don't why
To help her see that the sun ganna shine
No that the sun, that the sun gonna shine
Where it's shady and it never went there
She's my butterfly, she don't bother me

Woah that's my lady, yeah my shady baby
Talking about my baby

Yes that's his lady, he show thinks his lady's fine
Yes that's his baby, he show thinks his baby's fine

Talking about my lady, that's what they are
They're talking about my shady baby.
Yeah she's a star, shady lady

I agree that the first 2 lines sound like:
She's Satan's Queen
In a dark age scene

but the dealer whip/trip lines sounds correct as posted.

However, the sour cream line seems ridiculous
I always heard:

Like the sound of-a Cream, (referring to the band) which I admit, is arguably equally ridiculous.

finally, the line, No that the sun's gonna shine, sounds to me like:
that the sun, don't wanna shine
No that the sun, God's ever lovin' sun don't shine
Where it's shady
and it never will, yeah

which makes more since to me, (as the saying goes, where the sun don't shine)

When I listen to the opening lines of this song, I hear something very different from the lyrics posted:
"She's Satan's queen
"In a Dark Age scene.
"She's a bounty to win
"On a bad-deed latrine."

My impression is this girl is a low-life slut, but the guy loves her just as she is. Even when Mike Pinera swoops in and audibly jumps her bones, Shady's boyfriend doesn't mind at all. I think the band was experimenting with the funk musical style; the somewhat sleazy lyrics are the work of Doug Ingles' co-writer Bob Edmondson. He should have made the lady less nasty and more just naughty. It would make her man's unconditional acceptance more credible. That being said, I love this song!
