i love this song and itis my favorite one by TRAIN. personally, my take on the meaning is i see a couple who were gonna have casual sex and leave their feelings out of it, but... ironically, they fell...whoops!!! i like the way he tries to explain his feelings and actions to her...i believe he is sincere lol --i would getdown to being more than friends with him again-- rightnow i am a writer my purpose in life is to make a difference. my goal as a writer is to move up to the next level which is to be an author... the difference? me working up the nerve to let it go while at the same time being brave and self-confident enough to publish my works... it is no easy task to attempt to describe 'love' when we feel it and i think DriveBy is TRAIN's
magnum opus...although MeetVirginia&DropsofJupiter are divine too...that is just my(one person's) opinion...i am an optimist however, i still have excellent taste
and the message he is sending? i can relate and identify to experiencing those
same side-effects--unexpectedly and unintentionally-- with a friend(the cause)as
well as the descriptive feelings he is sharing with all of humanity...he was
unprotected(vulnerable/caught off guard/caught with his pants down)and wearing
his heart on his sleeve...he straightup admits it(nothing up my sleeve but love) the
'very good' kind of love does 'throe' and/or knock the majority of us off balance
love will neither go out of style nor become obsolete...times change people do not. i cannot pinpoint any ambiguity in the the meaning of these lyrics
